LUIGI MANCONI is President of the A Buon Diritto association. He is a lecturer in the sociology of political phenomena at IULM University of Milan. He has been a professional journalist since 1987 and has worked with the main Italian newspapers as both leader writer and commentator. He was the first Guarantor of the Rights of Persons Deprived of their Freedom to be appointed by an Italian city council, in Rome, from January 2004 to June 2006. He was Senator of the Italian Republic in two legislatures (12th and 13th), Secretary to the President of the Senate (13th Legislature). He was Under Secretary of State for Justice in the second Prodi government (15th Legislature) with responsibility for the prison system, was elected as Senator of the Republic in the 17th (current) Legislature and is now President of the Special Commission on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights. Over the course of his career, he has written many papers and articles on civil rights and related issues.
VALENTINA CALDERONE is the Director of A Buon Diritto and has been collaborating with the association for many years. She is an economics graduate and works mainly on questions regarding the deprivation of liberty, especially incidents involving deaths at the hands of the state. She has written papers and articles on these subjects and works as a volunteer for the “Antigone” association, entering a number of Italian prisons and carrying out monitoring activities for the Italian Prison Observatory. She also runs the A Buon Diritto press office and is in charge of the planning, writing and production of the association's audio/video material.
VALENTINA BRINIS has been working with A Buon Diritto as a researcher for six years. She is a sociology graduate and specialises in immigration, with specific reference to asylum-seekers and refugees. She is co-author, together with Luigi Manconi, of "Accogliamoli tutti. Una ragionevole proposta per salvare l'Italia, gli italiani e gli immigrati" (“Accept them all – a reasonable proposal for saving Italy, Italians and immigrants”) and other essays and articles on questions related to migration. Together with Valentina Calderone and Luigi Manconi she edits the weekly column Italia-razzismo (also published in the newspaper“l’Unità” from 19th May 2009 until the newspaper's closure in July 2014) and coordinates the association's migrant help desks. It is from these help desks that A Buon Diritto gathers material for its investigations into migration and migrants.
CECILIA ALDAZABAL has been working with A Buon Diritto for 4 years. She handles the association's administration, accounts and communications and also looks after the association daily press review .
GAIA ROMEO completed her schooling at the Torquato Tasso Classical High School in Rome and is now studying modern and contemporary history at Rome's La Sapienza University. She has been working with A Buon Diritto since 2012 where, together with Camilla Siliotti, she looks after the website, the Facebook page and the twitter account of the association.
CAMILLA SILIOTTI is a student who, after completing her schooling at the Torquato Tasso Classical High School in Rome, now studies classical literature at Rome's La Sapienza University. She has been working with A Buon Diritto since 2012 where, together with Gaia Romeo, she looks after the website, the Facebook page and the twitter account of the association.
